An exciting and FUN way for children to use their imaginations while releasing some energy. Little yogis will go on a jungle adventure using car, boat and airplane poses to get there, and pretending to be the animals and plants that they “see” along their journey (lions, elephants, monkeys, lizard, trees and flowers). Songs, games, art and stories are all part of the experience. Not only is this class great for building strength and maintaining flexibility in your child’s growing muscles, it will also help to improve your child’s balance, focus and coordination. Children will also be taught how to calm and relax their bodies using simple meditation techniques and breath awareness.

What is Yoga Reaches Out? YRO brings the yoga community together to raise funds for children’s charities. It was founded by personal trainer and yogi Sarah Gardner of Wayland, Massachusetts. In the fall of 2010 YRO held its first Yogathon at Gillette Stadium’s Field House in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Close to 500 yogis practiced yoga in the New England Patriot’s training facility. Over $225,000 was raised for Children’s Hospital Boston and Yoga For Single Moms. Under one roof, men and women of all levels enjoyed a day of yoga, music, and fundraising.

One of the guiding principles of Yoga Reaches Out is “seva,” the Sanskrit word for “selfless service.” Through your support, we will use yoga to create seva and help children in need.

We will learn the difference between using skeletal strength versus using muscle structure while performing the various poses. We’ll discuss the importance of using our core muscles, how they protect our spine and help us with everyday balance. We will reacquaint ourselves with the body’s natural mechanics and learn how to follow its natural flow. Most importantly, we’ll have fun! Whether you can perform a pose or not, just trying with a smile is just as good.
